During our tour through Jordan we stayed in 5 different hotels, all of which were unique in their own way. Are you curious about the best place for stargazing in the middle of the desert, or what the ideal base is for visiting Petra? Below you will find an overview of all the hotels we have visited and a number of good alternatives.
Amman
Shams Alweibdeh Hotel Apartments
This accommodation is a good base to discover Amman. This hotel consists of separate apartments with their own kitchen and bathroom. There is even a washing machine in the apartments. You can park your car for free under the hotel. Every morning there is a buffet breakfast on the top floor of the building with a beautiful view of the city. There is also a small swimming pool.

Dead Sea
Hilton Dead Sea Resort & Spa
This 5-star hotel is located directly on the Dead Sea and is a wonderful hotel to stay for a few days. The hotel has no fewer than three swimming pools and a separate children’s pool. One of the pools is an infinity pool and even has a pool bar. In addition to these pools, this hotel has direct access to the Dead Sea, including showers and special mud bowls. The rooms are spacious, very clean and tidy. Every morning there is an extensive breakfast buffet with show cooking. During the rest of the day, you will want for nothing in this hotel, with no fewer than seven dining options, including a Lebanese and Italian restaurant. The hotel is well secured and parking is free. Please note that there is nothing else to do in the vicinity. Although we did not think that was necessary for a few days, given all the swimming pools and the Dead Sea.
Double room at Hilton Dead Sea Resort & Spa from €154.
Alternative:
- Mövenpick Resort & Spa Dead Sea, from €137
- Dead Sea Marriott Resort & Spa, from €219
Petra
The Rock Camp
In this 5-star hotel you have the opportunity to sleep in luxury tents in the middle of the rocky nature. These tents have good beds, a private bathroom and air conditioning. There are different sizes of tents for different groups. The hotel is managed by a very nice family, who make you feel very welcome. In the morning there is a breakfast buffet and in the evening you also have the option to dine at the hotel. However, you must inform us of this in advance. The hotel is a bit more difficult to find and is a bit remote from other hotels. However, this makes the overnight stay very unique and special. Little Peter is only 7 km away and Petra about 15 km. There is also a swimming pool and you can park for free. As far as we are concerned, the ideal base for a visit to Petra.
Double room at The Rock Camp from €94.

- Petra Boutique Hotel, from €107
- Infinity Lodge, from €124
Wadi Rum
UFO Luxotel
This hotel exceeded all our expectations and was a very unique experience. This 5-star hotel is really located in the middle of the desert, and consists of luxurious bubble tents. These luxurious bubble tents consist of a large bed, sitting area with a beautiful view and a private bathroom. There is also a hammock on your private terrace. In the roof above the bed, the bubble is transparent so that you can see the stars from your bed. The bubbles are positioned in such a way that you really feel alone in the desert. Breakfast and dinner are always included in an overnight stay. Both are buffet style with show cooking and very good. From the hotel you can book a stargazing tour and jeep tour, both of which we highly recommend!
Double room at UFO Luxotel from €271.
Alternative:

Aqaba
Grand Tala Bay Resort
In Aqaba we stayed in a resort in a bay just outside the city called Grand Tala Bay. This 5-star hotel has a private beach on the Red Sea and a total of 5 swimming pools. In the morning you can enjoy a diverse breakfast buffet, and in the evening there is also the possibility to dine in buffet form. The hotel also has a nice bar for drinks. The beautiful marina and restaurants of Grand Tala Bay are within walking distance. When we were here it was very busy and you sometimes had to wait a long time for a towel or a seat at the pool. Check-in also took a very long time. The rooms are spacious and tidy.
Double room at Grand Tala Bay Resort from €140.
Alternative:
